What’s the role about?

The Communications Assistant is a great introduction to the Communications Profession and we have a fantastic opportunity for a Partner to join the External Communications team, within the John Lewis Brand & Lifestyle Team. The team is responsible for all aspects of the external communications strategy for the brand Our clear ambition for communications: to be the conscience of the business and champion of the brands. With communications disciplines that work effectively with other business departments to ensure integration of communications across the company, we work together for maximum impact.

This is brought to life across multiple fronts, with a communications programme that leverages progressive business initiatives, builds celebratory feel-good moments, campaigns with passion from a position of strength, scale and responsibility, maintains a drumbeat of positive storytelling, and works hard to mitigate potential risks. Activity must continue to reach multiple audiences, amplifying and deepening customer marketing activity and messaging delivered above the line.

What will you be doing?

You’ll be joining a small team of Partners that are experts in media and influencer relations. The role will be perfect for an organised, self-starting individual with relevant experience. The role supports the Senior Communications Manager and the Brand Comms team, working across comms campaigns and media events. You will be responsible for the brand coverage system, managing requests from journalists and influencers, responsible for the media sample loan system, maintaining the image and sample library and compiling and distributing the weekly coverage report to show our return on campaigns and coverage. As well as a key member of the team supporting brilliant media events and market leading influencer campaigns.

What you'll have?

• Previous work experience or employment either in-house or with a Public Relations agency and a real passion to succeed in the comms industry
• A general understanding of the media and how they work and a desire to build relationships
• Organised with excellent attention to detail and works well under pressure
• Very good writing and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with clarity and at pace

What else could you bring?

• Experience in monitoring, clipping and saving coverage
• Knowledge of lifestyle trends (Fashion, Home, Beauty)
• Ability to communicate effectively and manage multiple requests at once
• Awareness and knowledge of relevant media including influencers
• Excel skills and GPS trained
• A keen interest in retail
