Graduate Fashion Foundation - Freelance Communications & Social Media Manager (London)

Graduate Fashion Foundation — the charity behind Graduate Fashion Week, the world’s largest showcase of BA fashion talent — seeks an early career Freelance Communications & Social Media Manager to run the charity’s internal and external communications and marketing including social media platforms, PR outreach, press syndication and create content and graphics.

Our annual Graduate Fashion Week event is held every June, bringing together 40 UK and 30 international member universities under one roof for four days. GFW takes over Shoreditch’s famous Truman Brewery with catwalks and presentations, GFW Live! Talks, workshops, the Jobs Hub, portfolio and catwalk awards judging, daily award presentation events, industry breakfasts and much more.

 

About the role:

  • Part-time 2 - 4 days per week (changes per month, reflecting our event schedule)
  • Working from both home and the GFF team office in London in the spring months leading up to the GFW event in June.
  • Reporting directly into the MD, working directly with the small GFF team including Brand Partnership Director and University Manager.
  • Freelance Role: £200 Per Day

     

PR & COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Main point of contact for charity with all press contacts and media - Press liaison
  • Building a strong relationships with national, regional and online media
  • Press release creation and syndication for successful media coverage placement
  • Ensure that key media announcements are coordinated with core team calendar
  • Liaise with sponsors and attend meetings as and when required
  • Create PR media schedule for partner and charity announcements
  • Identify media opportunities
  • Work alongside Sponsorship Consultant to promote GFW merchandise that is sold in partnership with key stakeholders and sponsors.
  • Devise and implement marketing strategy to create awareness of event and drive consumer tickets sales as well as industry and press registration
  • Prepare and deliver promotional calendar for GFW event
  • Create marketing activities for Universities and Students to promote event within their own campuses and through their own networks.
  • Ensure that key media announcements are co-ordinated with internal communication schedule
  • Overall responsibility for brand management and corporate identity
  • Co-ordinate Digital team and event photographers
  • Work closely with Graphic Designer
  • Proof read written copy and captions for style and grammar, making appropriate changes
  • Set direction
  • Ensuring PR kit, imagery and content is available for the University or PR teams to utilise

     

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT:

  • Scheduling and managing GFF’s social media channels, primarily Instagram and TikTok as well as X and Facebook
  • Managing our LinkedIn account and driving our industry followers with industry facing content
  • Creating and managing our digital communications calendar to align with newsletters and website content posted by other team members
  • Ensure that key media announcements are coordinated with core team calendar
  • Liaise with sponsors and attend meetings as and when required, coordination of social media sponsor strategies
  • Creating engaging content for our student, graduate and industry audiences
  • Curating content from the charity's image bank of past events and activities
  • Interacting with our Instagram followers to grow our following
  • Sourcing and running the charities competition social campaigns
  • Promoting and spotlighting diverse and eye-catching student and graduate talent
  • Promoting the GFF Portfolio platform and selecting key graduates to profile
  • Sourcing industry talent for takeovers and Instagram lives
  • Engaging with and working alongside university social media channels to encourage them to repost and share our content
  • Running university takeovers of our channels
  • Create original content
  • Provide data analysis and metric reporting for clients, implementing growth strategies with tangible results demonstrated in regular reporting
  • Implementing digital guidelines into the Graduate Fashion Week brand guidelines
  • Develop strategies for generating meaningful content that garners a high volume of visits and encourages awareness and excitement around the subject
  • Ensure that all published content meets a certain standard of quality, is relevant, and deemed useful for the audience
  • Ensure all content is compliant with copyright legal and moral and cooperate guidelines

 

INFLUENCER MARKETING:

  • An understanding and awareness of the digital influencer sphere from fashion focused influencers to those popular in music and culture
  • Ability to research and identify appropriate influencers to work with Graduate Fashion Week
  • Outreach to influencers, creating ‘digital ambassadors’ and managing their work with GFW
  • Brainstorm creative ways in which GFW may capitalise on relationships with influencers, using this to grow following and reach, and strengthen digital presence
  • Identify opportunities for influencer marketing in relation to Graduate Fashion Week’s aims

     

GRAPHICS:

  • Using Adobe Suite InDesign and Photoshop to create refreshing and engaging brand graphics for social, web and events following GFF brand guidelines
  • Supporting Brand Partnerships team with Pitch Presentation Decks and Assets
  • Creating fresh social media graphics for brand partner launches and liaising with brand partner teams Inhouse GFF presentations for monthly trustee meetings and bi-annual All Colleges Meetings, events and brand reports

     

At GFW Event:

  • Managing and leading the digital team of social media assistants and photographers of up to 12 people at the Graduate Fashion Week to ensure all activations and key guests are captured and shared promptly
  • Capturing new followers attending the event
  • Creating and managing content schedules and event communications calendar in the lead-up to GFW, ensuring all announcements are delivered for talks, catwalks and ticket sales
  • Ensuring content is available for the PR and Newsletter teams to utilise each day
  • Digital and IRL promotion of Graduate Fashion Foundation events and competitions
  • Supporting with post-event reporting for brand partners
  • Curating all imagery from the event and filing correctly on the GFF digital server
  • Write individual schedules for the social media focused members of the Digital Team during GFW to ensure optimum event coverage

     

About you, Qualifications & Desirable Skills:

  • Proficiency in many social media platforms
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and social media scheduling tools
  • Proficient with Mac OS software such as Mail, iCal and Keynote
  • Proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign is also encouraged
  • 1-3 years of experience in a similar role
  • A background in fashion and/or events is preferred
  • A social media native with experience creating video content for Reels and TikTok
  • Understanding of social trends and algorithms to create content that connects with the GFF audience and grow the platform
  • Creative, strategic and full of new content creation ideas for the GFF platforms
  • Confident and outgoing, happy to chat to new people and work in a team
  • Able to multitask and work quickly during busy events
  • Analytical and detail-oriented to review and improve
  • Strong organisational and communication skills are essential
  • Strong copywriter
  • Based in or around London and Willing to work in person in the London office a minimum of 2 day per week in the lead-up to GFW25
  • Own your laptop and all software to deliver your job (GFF will provide a license to Adobe Suites and Social Media scheduling software)
  • Must be available for the duration of GFW25: 13th to 16th of June to stay in hotel to work the main event
  • Proven experience of budget and team management
  • Capacity to prioritise tasks and work under pressure
  • Strong English language communication - oral and written
  • Ability to work under own initiative and manage team of onsite staff and interns
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing workloads throughout the year
  • Natural multi-tasker
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information with discretion
  • Experience in creative writing, copyediting, news writing, digital media, and influencer marketing
  • Must possess the ability to guide contributors toward the creation of meaningful, quality content, with attention to serving the interests of the brand and the audience
  • Experience with managing videographers, graphic designers and contributors
  • Established media and influencer database / relationships
