Copywriter job - Birchbox UK

Can you write compelling copy? Could your words drive engagement? 

We have an exciting opportunity for a copywriter to join our UK team. We’re looking for a talented creative thinker who’s always looking for “a better way to say it”. 

You'll work closely with our Head of Content to come up with creative ideas and turn mundane words into engaging copy, working on everything from editorial features and marketing emails to product descriptions, in-box menus, social posts and blogs. As a seasoned copywriter, you’ll be able to turn you hand to any online or offline format.

Alongside your immediate colleagues in the content team you’ll work closely with the marketing team, lending them your language expertise to make sure they deliver the very best messages to our customers. A key brand guardian, you’ll ensure our fun and friendly tone of voice is wordperfect across all channels.

Through words you’ll help us to develop a genuine connection with new and existing customers, driving engagement and brand advocacy.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Write creative copy across all channels including CRM, SEO product and web copy, paid/organic social media, product menu cards and SEO-rich articles
  • Create copy content from concept and first draft, to feedback and final proofreading
  • Bring our monthly themes and limited-edition boxes to life with inspiring names and introductions
  • Conceptualise and write compelling and engaging editorial features
  • Brainstorm fresh ideas, define the format of articles, interview experts, work alongside merchandising on product selection, and handle any necessary edits
  • Execute a review and refresh of our existing blog content as we migrate to a new CMS
  • Optimise copy you create using knowledge of SEO
  • Carry out keyword and competitor research for key categories
  • Research search volume and incorporate SEO best practices in order to increase organic search ranking
  • Lead new content initiatives, such as our Pillar Pages and media panels
  • Actively ensure editorial guidelines are followed, and act as a guardian for the correct tone of voice 
  • Help teams across Birchbox by sub-editing and proofreading copy to make sure it’s absolutely correct and on brand 

 

About You: 

  • You have a creative approach to writing and idea generation for maximum impact
  • You have a flexible approach to day-to-day work, prioritising projects, taking last-minute briefs in your stride and always meeting deadlines
  • You’re a stickler for accuracy, with a sixth sense for mistakes
  • You’re objective, thick-skinned, open to change and accepting of constructive criticism (because when it comes to copy, everyone’s got an opinion)
  • You understand of how copy – good or bad – can affect brand perception
  • You have an unwavering dedication to high quality writing and grammatical accuracy 

 

Your skills/experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a copywriter role
  • Exceptional writing ability 
  • An impressive portfolio of work 
  • Excellent sub-editing skills 
  • Demonstrable experience with search engine optimisation
  • The ability to adapt and tailor copy for different channels 
  • The ability to capture customers’ interest in one line
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, and a hands-on work ethic.

UK work permit required.
