TATLER is looking for a Features Director (maternity cover contract) to join its busy features team for a period of 12 months.
The Features Director will work with the Editor to conceptualise, create and commission agenda-setting content to a world-class standard. They will maintain Tatler’s reputation as the go-to destination for talent and journalistic excellence.
This senior position requires someone with experience at a well-respected publication or media organisation. The successful candidate must have a creative flair for new content across print and digital platforms and a strong understanding of Tatler’s heritage. They will thrive on meeting excellence in a fast-paced editorial environment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- To work with Tatler’s Editor to conceptualise, create and commission agenda-setting content
- Liaising with agents and fixing covers
- Keeping abreast of culture, news and the Tatler scene
- Editing, proofreading and writing for the magazine
- Establishing strong and fruitful relationships with key industry contacts
- To lead editorial meetings, manage the team’s daily content output, oversee the features budget and work closely with the digital team
- To contribute creative ideas on how to cover key events across different digital platforms, including social and video
- To build a strong global team of writers and contributors
- To identify up-and-coming talent in music, film, art and contemporary culture and negotiate their entry into Tatler
Essential Skills & Requirements
- The ability to deliver written copy to a high standard within tight deadlines
- A good knowledge of the Tatler world and who’s who
- Excellent writing and copy-editing skills, with a sharp eye for detail
- A nose for news: an ideas generator, eager to uncover original stories and angles
- Exhaustive knowledge of fashion, music, film, lifestyle and contemporary culture
- Extensive experience as a senior editor within an established global media business or working on a national title, with experience running a features team
- Excellent people-management and communication skills
- Great planning and organisational skills – making sure that all copy is filed on time is a must
- A brilliant contacts book of writers to commission for features
