YouTube has announced that Dream Screen, its feature that lets users generate unique AI backgrounds for their Shorts with a text prompt, is getting a major upgrade with the integration of Google DeepMind's newest video generation model, Veo 2.

The platform is also launching a new capability powered by Veo 2: generating standalone video clips that users can add to any of their Shorts.

• To create video backgrounds for their Shorts, users need to open the Shorts camera, select Green Screen, then Dream Screen. From there, they need to type in a prompt, select their image, and then create their video background.
• To create a clip to add to any Short, users need to open the Shorts camera, tap Add to open the media picker, then tap Create at the top. After inputting their prompt, they need to select their image, then tap Create video, and choose their desired length.
