The Independent has announced it will take over BuzzFeed Inc in the UK to create a “digital supergroup”. The commercial and editorial staff from BuzzFeed UK, HuffPost, and Tasty UK will be managed by the Independent. BuzzFeed and the other platforms will continue to operate as separate websites.
The deal brings together brands of The Independent, including Independent TV, IndyBest and Indy100, with BuzzFeed UK, Tasty UK, Seasoned, and HuffPost UK, to form one operation in the UK and Ireland, led by The Independent, which ceased publishing print editions in 2016.
