LinkedIn reveals how B2B marketers can better measure what drives revenue
Date posted on DIARY directory: Monday 26th October 2026
LinkedIn has published a new LinkedIn Ads Guide to B2B Attribution, exploring how marketers can connect early buyer engagement to pipeline and revenue, and make smarter investment decisions even when the full buying journey can’t be observed.
According to LinkedIn, the smartest B2B teams have stopped treating attribution like a GPS and started treating it like a compass. No attribution system can observe every interaction that influences a purchase decision, but it can reveal reliable patterns in buyer behaviour and revenue outcomes, showing which marketing activities consistently correlate with pipeline creation, opportunity progression and closed revenue.
Why B2B attribution needs a different approach
- Research from Factors.ai found that buyer engagement begins an average of 124 days before an opportunity is created in the CRM.
- Dreamdata found that 81% of the customer journey happens outside the sales pipeline, across 88 touchpoints on average, and that B2B buying decisions play out over 272 days on average.
- Buyers talk to peers, attend events, and scan through content and AI responses, often without a click, while B2C-centric models such as last-click attribution overemphasise what happens after buyers have reached an advanced stage.
Three foundations for B2B attribution
- Built on full-funnel visibility - Moving beyond clicks and form-fills to capture view-through engagement and causal impact.
- Inclusive of the full buying group - Accounting for every stakeholder, including hidden buyers who are essentially invisible to marketing efforts.
- Designed for long cycles - Using 180- or 365-day lookback windows to create a better understanding of pipeline influence.
The guide also features real-world examples. Zembl uncovered 3.2x more LinkedIn-influenced revenue through the Factors.AI integration, while Anteriad connected LinkedIn’s Company Intelligence API with Octane11’s dashboards, revealing that 9x more opportunities than previously thought had engaged with LinkedIn Ads before entering the pipeline. Both companies increased LinkedIn investment significantly in response.
How to make better decisions, faster
- Shift budget confidently towards channels that appear consistently in closed deals, even if causation can’t be proved perfectly.
- Connect early touchpoints to downstream pipeline to make upper-funnel investment more defensible.
- Equip sales and marketing with a shared view of account journeys to keep priorities aligned.
- Listen to trusted data and act on directional clarity.
