James Murdoch, son of media publisher Rupert Murdoch, has agreed to acquire half of New York-based digital media company Vox Media, in a deal worth approximately $300 million through his investment company Lupa Systems.
The acquisition includes New York Magazine and its digital properties The Cut, Vulture, Intelligencer, The Strategist, Curbed and Grub Street, along with Vox's podcast division. The deal excludes Eater, PopSugar, SportsBlogs Nation, the Dodo and the Verge.
James stated that the acquisition “aligns well with our existing holdings and investments and reflects both our interest in the forward edge of culture and our deep commitment to ambitious journalism and agenda-setting conversations”.
James previously served as CEO of 21st Century Fox, Sky UK and Hong Kong-based Star TV.
