Influencer marketing platform Influencer has released its latest report, Creator Perspectives: The Playbook for Brands to Thrive in the Creator Economy.

The report examines professional brand partnerships through the lens of creators. It provides an unfiltered view of the realities creators navigate when working with brands, highlighting both the opportunities and areas for growth to unlock even more impactful collaborations. The report explores themes such as long vs. short-term partnerships, how creators value and price their services, and how to strike the right balance when it comes to creative control.

Influencer partnered with leading cultural insights and strategy consultancy Crowd DNA to identify trends in creator conversations around working with brands, and to explore them directly through quantitative and qualitative surveys across a diverse pool of creators. 

 

CREATORS HUSTLE, BRANDS SPEND - Welcome to the Asymmetrical Economy

Insights: 

  • Creators want to work with brands to further professionalise the creator economy
  • For most creators, being a creator is still a side hustle
  • 25% of hero/megastar creators are making content full-time as their main source of income
  • Creators price their work by the grind - the most important factor creators consider when deciding a price is the time and effort invested in the content creation.

  • Behind the glamour, most creators are balancing multiple jobs, often working long hours and managing competing priorities. Level up your relationship with your creators by recognising their hustle and supporting their journey with flexible partnerships and realistic expectations.

INVEST IN CREATORS, NOT CAMPAIGNS

  • Creators need the tools to grow. Helping them understand their role in the marketing mix makes for better performance. When we treat creators as powerful brand custodians, we recognise their role. In return, they’ll turn your campaigns into cultural moments. 

VALUING GENUINE ENGAGEMENT

  • The creator economy thrives on authentic interaction and true dedication rather than vanity metrics. Real culture appreciates authentic engagement. Prioritise creators who foster meaningful engagement and demonstrate deep dedication to their craft, cultivating stronger community connections for your brand.

 

MORE THAN MEGAPHONES - Redefining Collaboration

  • Creators want clarity. 54% say understanding brand KPIs would help them shape better strategies
  • 72% of creators say they prefer long-term partnerships, yet only 54% have them
  • 77% of creators agree they feel supported by brands with open communication channels and mutual respect for their boundaries and well-being.

WHY CREATORS SAY YES (OR NO) TO YOUR BRAND:

  • 78% brand reputation, credibility, quality of products and services, alignment with personal values
  • 67% personal experience with the brand, product and customer service
  • 64% the relevance and meaning it has to their audience.

Tips:

SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE

  • Drop the marketing jargon and share your goals upfront. If you’re not aligned early, expect chaos, frustration and revisions. Ensure creator briefings are comprehensive and honest - ask for feedback on them and make them as collaborative as possible.

RELATIONSHIPS ARE THE SECRET SAUCE

  • Treat creators like collaborators, not vendors. Strong relationships built on trust and respect unlock the kind of creativity algorithms can’t ignore. Brand and product knowledge is key, so invest in turning them into experts by integrating them into product onboarding, launch events and experiential activations.

AUTHENTICITY ISN’T A VIBE IT’S A STRATEGY

  • Dive into a creator’s ethos, style, and storytelling. Collaborate with those who align with your brand and know how to connect with audiences.   • Vague success goals lead to poor campaigns and strained relations. Clear metrics prevent misaligned work and wasted expertise. Be crystal clear on what success looks like and provide digestible metrics reflecting your expectations, saving time, cutting frustration and delivering results.

VALUE CREATORS AS CULTURAL CURATORS

  •  Open a two-way creative development process with creators. Explore inviting them into campaign strategy sessions and allow them to co-craft content ideas and co-direct the messaging and tone of voice.
