Influencer intelligence, discovery and digital trend forecasting service CORQ. has revealed its predictions for the five emerging TikTok fashion micro trends which are set to define the spring style for 2023.
Convertible wear
Convertible fashion is an emerging trend on TikTok and topical in the cost of living crisis. A number of TikTok influencers have showcased their convertible creations including Ashley, a fashion student in Melbourne, who presented her convertible skirt, which can also be used as a jacket. New York-based creator Emily has demonstrated how her oversized racer jacket from Aelfric Eden can also be a co-ord and Izzi has shown a video of her colour-changing dress which turns from white to pink in the sun.
Spring sparkle
In 2023, sequins will be dominating spring fashion. Sparkly and metallic textiles featured heavily in designers’ SS23 collections, from Gucci to Tom Ford, Isabel Marant and Versace. Consumers are beginning to connect with this trend, as TikTok fashion and beauty creator Larissa Marielle styled silver skinny jeans and Karen Blanchard shared how she wears a gold pleated maxi skirt.
Big bags are back
Oversized totes and gigantic purses are making a return, as seen during Louis Vuitton and Prada’s SS23 shows. French model Jeanne Damas’ clothing brand Rouje launched its Big Bag. This year, Marc Jacobs’ canvas tote was a hit among TikTokers, and now they are focusing on large leather bags for 2023.
Eccentric accessories
Bold accessories will be central to spring looks. Both celebrities and creators have been seen wearing eccentric accessories including Loewe’s broken egg heels on Emma Chamberlain, or the Balenciaga x Lay's bag. Fashion creator Oghosa Ovienrioba wearing Kendall Miles’ furry heels, or Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw on the set of And Just Like That, holding the JW Anderson Pigeon Clutch and wearing a Fendi baguette bag on her ankle.
Shoulder drama
This trend will take the idea of shoulder pads to the extreme, such as the exaggerated shoulder pad seen on Doja Cat and Billy Porter. Designer Luke Neil’s recent creation has featured rounded, inflated shoulders and lifestyle blogger Vicky Lee is already picking up this look, wearing puffed shoulder designs by LaQuan Smith.
