Local resident Eleanor Taylor-Roberts, founder of Eleanor Juliet PR Ltd., and writer Sofia Rattue are hosting an International Women's Day 2026 London soirée with influential girlfriends whereby each will be dusting off their wedding dresses to don for a celebratory Pink Party. The regional affair will champion women under a fresh and blush-hued wave of feminism, deepening the conversation on why pink is so controversial and the re-appropriation of the "girly" shade...
At the start of the last century, pink was considered a boy hue - a 'light red', the colour of masculinity representing stamina and power - whilst blue was for girls. Marketeers had switched it by the forties. From Barbie’s lipstick tint and the hot pink of tabloid party girls to the wasteland of girls' toys, pink has traditionally indicated a certain layer of femininity, gaining a reputation as a provocative colour. Despite its copious shades and the intricacies of its cultural significance, it is a hue often branded with the same connotations of excess and feminine frivolity. Hot pink - deemed the adult version of soft pink, associated with little girls and submission - is feisty and a tonal choice saying: We won't be seen as weak.
The forthcoming London Pink Party will act as a platform to announce the results of a charity auction whereby residents can bid to win a bespoke bridal fashion piece to raise valuable funds for local establishments Wimbledon SW19 Women's Institute and Wimbledon Guild. More detail to be revealed on the garment and how to get involved.
Invitation-only event commences at 8pm.
