WGSN, the global trend authority, has released its report 'WGSN - The Vision: Spring/Summer 2018' - a bi-annual outlook that defines the four most relevant macro trends in fashion, style, retail, and design for the coming two years. The overall theme driving the trends in the new report is “States of Mind”, highlighting the growing transcendence that the borders of age, gender, seasons, geography, and identity will have on consumers.
The four trends are defined as: Psychotropical, which follows the growth of the experience economy, and how the concept of nature will branch out to include virtual reality wonderlands; Youth Tonic, following how youth is becoming a state of mind and emphasising virtual reality and data to allow for new means of creative expression and self-identity; Kinship, a growing sense of community and cultural sharing, seeking to break boundaries; and Slow Futures, where design and technology will merge more seamlessly together creating a rustic minimalism that will combat overconsumption.
